Birth Photography and The Doula: The Beauty of Having Both

There are so many choices to make when you are expecting a new addition to your family! Choosing between birth photography and having a doula shouldn’t be on that list. Find yourself a Doulatog, somebody who offers both!

I often get asked how I manage to do both and does one suffer. It’s a conversation with my clients from day one how they would prefer to prioritize things at different stages of labor and birth. Would they prefer more candid shots during early labor and hands on physical doula support during the hard parts? Do they want me to capture crowning shots or be beside them coaching through pushing? Everyone has their own feelings around what matters most to them with both the outcome of the birth photography and the in the moment doula care. I aim to provide exactly what they hope for!

Those plans can often change in the moment! This sweet client had a very long and difficult pushing stage so it was decided at that time that my support was much more important than crowning shots. Thankfully we were still able to get some sweet immediate post birth shots!

Isn’t dads face just the sweetest? So much emotion as he looks at his girls!

Details make birth photography for me! I absolutely adore the small things and candid moments that people won’t remember five years down the road.

Supporting a hospital induction is always a long journey but having a doula present can help you achieve a more physiologic birth. This means a better recovery and a wonderfully alert and peaceful little one!
